Into the Working Society…
Saturday, August 2, 2008

After my graduation with a Diploma in Business Studies, I worked as an Accounts Assistant with a German Company in Orchard. I earned a gross salary of $1,400 a month, taking home $1,120. Initially, I gave my mum $800 a month to help her out with household bills. Not forgetting my elder brother’s debts too! Leaving me with a pathetic $320 a month to handle my own expenses like, mobile phone bill, transportation, daily meals etc. I struggled for months, & when I could barely had a breather… I requested to decrease the allowance to $500 a month. Things turn for a better! After a year or so of experience in the accounting field, I job-hopped to a Trading Company for an Accounts Officer position, drawing a higher salary of $1,600. The job sucks as there was nothing much for me to learn.

I switched to do some sales as a Relationship Officer with Citibank. The position sounded appealing, but it is all about telemarketing… Making phone calls from 9am to 6pm. Salary is good as it pays incentive on top of your basic. Life there was fun, as my co-colleagues were of my age group. Very competitive environment but the experience was fantastic. I gained sales experience & meeting cold customers there.
