 My Breastfeeding Experience
Thursday, April 23, 2009
For some reasons I decided to breastfeed my 2nd child, Dyllis... I started breastfeeding her at the very 1st feed in Mt A... Dyllis is sucking well but very very fast... guess she's like her Mummy.. so impatient!
My breastfeeding experience is a "fulfilling" one... 1 problem after another... I had sore nipples in the 1st week... so painful & unbearable... I got no choice but to express the milk & bottle feed her... Was told to continue to latch her on thou I have sore nipples after speaking to a lactation consultant... reason being the 1st month is very crucial in establishing the supply. After 2-3 days, my nipples recover & everything is back to normal... "Phew"... Then I had blocked ducts after a couple of days... 3 stupid lumps in my left breast... I don't know what to do & sought help from the BMSG.. oops.. its the breastfeeding mothers support group... a non-profitable organisation to create awareness in breastfeeding... While waiting for their call... I had high fever, as high as 39.4 degrees... I was ignorant at that time... thought I caught a flu virus or something... it was in fact due to my encorgement... the fever went on for 3 days... feeling so terrible that on the 2nd day I went to see a GP... was told that paracetamol is safe for breastfeeding so I continued breastfeeding Dyllis... also read up some old threads on the idobaby forum & learnt that we are supposed to continue to breastfeed the baby... some theory on the antibodies issue passing to baby during breastfeeding to help build her immune system to fight the virus...
The BMSG counsellor finally called & guided me alot on how to clear the blocked ducts... I took around 5 days to fully clear the ducts in my left breast... It wasn't easy at all! Dear Dear helped me alot in massaging my breasts... not those soft gentle massage but those hard & forceful ones to help clear the ducts.. so it's not a good feeling afterall! Have used don't know how many pails of hot water during that 5 days *water bill sure go up 1* =P
After my ducts have cleared... Dyllis take in only like 10mins every feed... Used to take like 30-40mins... as I'm a 1st-time breastfeeding mummy... felt troubled & upset... don't know what's wrong with her?! So I approached the BMSG for help again... & after speaking to the counsellor... was told that it does not matter how long baby is sucking... as long baby is contented after the feed.. sleeping well.. everything is good enough... she also claimed that Dyllis is an efficient drinker! I guess so ba.. coz' she's fast in sucking... felt so relieved after talking to the counsellor.. I'm really so happy that we have such good support nowadays... not only from BMSG... also from the parenting forum that I've been actively participating in *IdoBaby*!!!
Everything went on fine... now I have redundant supply of milk... hehe =P Dylan is drinking my expressed breastmilk too... I can expressed like 3 packets of milk each day & Dylan is taking 2 packets per day... 1 in the day 1 in the night... the other for standby! Initially when I gave him my milk... he rejected & didn't really like it... When I asked him if the milk tastes good.. guess how he replied me?! "Hhmm... I think.. the milk... is not very nice!" He did it in a very roundabout manner... kinda like don't want to disappoint me! So cute right my boy! Then the next sentence he said was "I must tell myself that the milk is nice then it will be nice!" Haha =P that was what I taught when each time he losses a game... I told him before that it all matters in ur mindset... what u think.. if u think u will lose u definitely will lose.. if u think u will win u will certainly win in the end.. so he's using the same logic to condition himself that the milk is nice! Kids nowadays are really amazing! They can relate things like no one else could. Eventually after a couple of tries.. he's used to the taste of the breastmilk.. See what?! Kids' adaptability is so powerful! Anytime anywhere anything...
Below is a photo of Dyllis sucking... Pls don't think otherwise hor... Breastfeeding is a noble & great experience afterall!
Drink till fell asleep... this is what we call "comfort nursing" Peeping at Mummy... so distracted my girl! Labels: Breasfeeding

…slave to KING Elvin, PRINCE Dylan & PRINCESS Dyllis
The girl's name Rachel \r(a)-chel is pronounced as RAY-chel. It is of Hebrew origin, & its meaning is "ewe, innocent lamb".
But after living in this realistic & political world, guess I could never be an innocent lamb anymore... protecting my loved ones at all cost & not conspiracing on others is my basis of life!
